Therapy Training

Kris Cormier MSW RSW can support you with most mental health concerns, especially addiction, sexuality, relationships, sexual assault, and trauma.

Therapy Training:

Kris Cormier, MSW/RSW, is committed to lifelong learning… She enjoys reading therapy textbooks & articles; attending workshops & webinars; & participating in training courses. Not only does this allow her to continue to learn more about all aspects of the human experience, it ensures she can continue to provide evidence-informed treatment interventions.

You’ll find listed below some of the additional training that Kris has sought out following her university education (B.A.h. Psychology, B.A. Women’s Studies, Master of Social Work). This post-graduate Therapy Training ensures evidence-based interventions are being provided in individual therapy.

& too many more to mention!

Kris has also found it to be crucial to the therapy process to have specific models to guide structure within sessions and across sessions. Models such as Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), & Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), & Emotionally-Focused individual Therapy (EFiT) provide a “road map” to guide our journey as well as practical exercises, handouts, worksheets, & teachings to help clients explore certain facets of their experience. If you have ever experienced therapy that felt “aimless” – like you were just venting about your life in a way you could do with a close friend – a lack of specific model may have been a factor.

Unfortunately, post-grad training is very expensive & time-intensive! Many graduate-level counselling programs offer a wide variety of general counselling interventions. Kris feels extremely fortunate to have had the time, energy, & funding to have been able to pursue these additional training opportunities, thanks in large part due to diversity scholarships offered by organizations such as ICEEFT.
