Meet Kris

Meet Kris, MSW RSW – Owner of Connect to Calm Therapy
Kris (she/they) works with women & members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, ages 16 to 64, for individual therapy. They also offer Couples Counselling to partners of all genders/orientations (polycules welcome!).
Kris can support you with most mental health concerns. They have added experience with specific populations/concerns:
- addictions (substances or addictive behaviour)
- past trauma (child abuse, sexual assault)
- queer relationships, gender identity, polyamoury / non-monogamy
- Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
- neurodivergence (ADHD, ASD)

Education: B.A. honours Psychology, B.A. Women’s Studies from the University of Ottawa. Master of Social Work (MSW) from Carleton University (with courses from St. Paul University’s MA Counselling & Spirituality).
Primary therapy styles: Feminist therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Focused ACT, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Emotionally-Focused individual Therapy (EFiT), & Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Memberships/Registration: registered social worker (RSW) with the Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW), member of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS).

Clinical experience
Kris began working in the counselling field in 2001 during her B.A. honours Psychology degree. She later earned a Master of Social Work (MSW). and began providing psychotherapy to individuals in 2021.
Kris has many years of experience providing mental health support, especially to women & members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
Lived experience
Kris is a 40-something parent of adult children. She is a white, disabled, genderfluid, queer person with Indigenous ancestry.
Kris has been married, separated, & is a survivor of domestic violence. She has lived & worked in the 2SLGBTQ+ community since 1995 and is the Music Director of Ottawa’s lesbian-founded choir, In Harmony.
